Officials of Bombardier Aerospace have announced that their new mid-size passenger jet will be built in Mirabel, Quebec, outside Montreal. The $375 million project will involve assembly of the company's C-Series jet, a fuel-efficient model scheduled to debut in 2013. More than 2,100 jobs are expected as a result of the project. Kansas City, Missouri, was the only other contender for the project; Missouri officials offered a $240 million incentives package to the company, but officials of Bombardier had previously pointed to the Quebec location as the more likely choice because Canada's International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers had agreed to grant concessions to the company if the project landed in Quebec.
