Whirlpool will construct a new campus in Benton Harbor, Michigan, consolidating most of its Twin Cities-based employees to the three new buildings.

"Thanks to collaboration with our four local government bodies and with the state of Michigan, we will further strengthen our commitment to the Benton Harbor-St. Joseph communities," said Jeff Fettig, Whirlpool chairman and CEO. "With more than 4,000 individuals in our current facilities, we have simply outgrown our current space."

The company said that the plan intends to improve productivity, reduce operating costs, and improve flexibility to adapt to changing business and staff needs.

The project will take five years to complete. Over that time, Whirlpool will relinquish its leases in Hilltop North, Box Factory, Multimedia Center, and the former Transamerica site.

The company did not say if it is seeking incentives at this time.
