Caterpillar is creating 500 jobs in Victoria, Texas. The company will build a 600,000-square-foot hydraulic excavator manufacturing plant that is expected to be operational by the middle of 2012. The facility will triple the company's current production of hydraulic excavators in the United States.

"Based on our comprehensive review of possible locations, Victoria's proximity to our supply base, access to ports and other transportation, as well as the positive business climate in Texas, made this the ideal site for this project," said Gary Stampanato, Caterpillar vice president overseeing excavators.

The Texas Enterprise Fund will make financial contributions to the project.
