A global consulting and technology firm, Capgemini is expanding its operations in Richland County, South Carolina. The company will open an advanced technology and development center. The new center is projected to create at least 200 jobs, with the potential for additional positions in the future.

Capgemini’s expanded operations are part of its worldwide, connected network of advanced technology and development centers, where diverse teams of innovators develop and implement new technology and digital experiences.

In February 2017, Capgemini acquired Columbia-based insurance and information technology services firm TCube Solutions, Inc.; and, in December 2017, the company opened a new office in The BullStreet District, which is designed to attract modern, knowledge-based companies.

With this latest investment, Capgemini will expand its footprint in the First Base Building at Spirit Communications Park at BullStreet. The company will hire, train and develop a team of technology experts focused on emerging and advanced technology solutions for a variety of critical clients across multiple industries.

As an incentive, the Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to this project. A $400,000 Set Aside grant was also awarded to Richland County to assist with the costs of building improvements.

This announcement is a milestone for the community, and we’re excited to see what the future has in store for Capgemini,” said Governor Henry McMaster.

“This is the largest announcement of technology jobs in Columbia in the last decade and was made possible by partnership with Governor McMaster, the S.C. Department of Commerce, the City of Columbia and the developer of The BullStreet District. These jobs will pay 50 percent more than the average hourly earnings in Columbia, and are a testament to the type of workforce we have in South Carolina,” Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt said.

“From leading-edge research projects to internship and pipeline programs for talented students, the relationship we’re establishing with Capgemini is a great example of how universities and private industries can work together toward a common purpose. These partnerships are also beneficial to the local economy because they help create and retain high-value jobs right here in the Midlands,” University of South Carolina President Harris Pastides said.
