From July to August, employment in America's non-farm private-business sector increased by 91,000 (on a seasonally adjusted basis), according to the latest "ADP National Employment Report."

Specifically, service-sector jobs rose by 80,000 in August, marking 20 consecutivemonths of employment gains; while in that same month goods-producing jobs increased by 11,000 and manufacturing employment slipped 4,000.

The report measures employment data derived from an anonymous subset of roughly 500,000 U.S. business clients of ADP. The report also revised its June to July employment to 109,000, just a bit lower than the initially reported 114,000.

In August, small payroll employment (up to 49 workers) rose 58,000, almost equal to that oflast month. Medium payroll employment (50 to 499 workers) rose 30,000, while large payroll employment (500 or more workers) created just 3,000 jobs.

After suffering three consecutive monthly declines, construction industry employment increased 7,000 in August. The brought the total decrease in construction employment (since its peak inJanuary 2007) to 2,128,000. Financial services sector employment was relatively unchanged, as the total decrease in this sector remains 687,000.
