Whirlpool will invest $120 million to build a 1 million-square-foot, LEED certified facility in Cleveland, Tennessee, the company announced today. Whirlpool will create 130 jobs as part of the project. It already employs 1,500 people in Cleveland.

"The new, premium cooking center of excellence that we will be building in Cleveland is evidence of our commitment to consumers and our confidence in the U.S. market," said Marc Bitzer, president of Whirlpool Corporation North America.

"We're grateful to our team in Cleveland, as well as the local, state, and federal officials who supported this project to retain and grow jobs in Tennessee," said Al Holaday, vice president of manufacturing, operations, and quality. "Whirlpool is proud to employ more U.S. manufacturing workers than any appliance maker selling product in the U.S."

Recently, Whirlpool has invested $85 million in its Benton Harbor, Michigan, headquarters; created 190 jobs in Ottawa, Ohio; spent $20 million to improve efficiency at its Amana, Iowa, plant; and announced a new $40 million regional distribution center in Wilmer, Texas.
