Kinaxis has issued seven success factors for supply chain projects, based on a similar analysis of IT projects by the Standish Group. The factors for supply chain projects include setting realistic goals, making an effective plan, finding a strong executive sponsor, assembling good resources, staying flexible, allowing for testing, and promoting user buy-in.

While success in supply chain management (SCM) is important for all shipping and logistics businesses, the information is especially critical for those with distant outsources in Asia. The report guides such projects to respond to rapid changes and make their projects more efficient in costs and time.

Success does not require all seven factors, but the odds of success improve with the addition of more factors. Some of the report's other tips include solving the problem that is the biggest financial drain first, recruiting the best people in your team to the project, and building flexibility into supply chain plans.
