Hardwood Supplier Investing $5 Million for Indiana Mill

10/02/2009
Pike Lumber Company, a manufacturer and distributor of hardwood lumber, will invest $5 million to locate a new mill in Milan, Indiana, according to the Indiana governor's office. The company expects to create 20 new jobs at the site, which will produce kiln-dried lumber for clients in the cabinet, millwork, furniture, and musical instrument industries. "The hardwood forests we manage and the lumber we manufacture right here in Indiana ends up all over the world," says Jim Mulligan, Pike Lumber's president. "The Milan project is the largest single capital investment in our 105-year history. We are excited to become part of the Milan community and utilize the sustainable timber resources in this region." The state has offered the company up to $100,000 in performance-based tax credits, up to $8.500 in training grants, and $7,500 in infrastructure assistance, contingent on job creation; the nearby city of Lawrenceburg will provide a $364,500 grant; the county will provide $25,000 toward work force training; and the town will consider property tax abatement.
