Biopharmaceutical Company Investing $268 Million for North Carolina Expansion

Biotech company Talecris Biotherapeutics will invest $268.7 million to expand its manufacturing facilities in Clayton, North Carolina, according to the North Carolina governor's office. The company plans to create 259 new jobs over the next seven years at an average annual salary of $51,066 plus benefits. Talecris discovers, develops, and produces critical-care treatments in immunology, neurology, pulmonolgy, and hemostasis; it has 1,800 employees in Johnston County, North Carolina. "We're extremely pleased to be investing in our company's growth while at the same time contributing to the economic prosperity of Johnston County, a region that has been a historic partner in the development of our industry," says Mary Kuhn, Talecris' executive vice president of operations. "Our manufacturing capabilities have grown exponentially in recent years, creating more jobs and local opportunities. We're excited to continue expanding in a region that has been so suportive of the biotechnology industry." The state will provide a $250,000 grant, contingent on job creation, that must be matched by local governments; the state will also provide job training grants.
