Omega Foods Expands Production At Its Plant in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin
The Two Rivers company produces and sells Omega-3 enriched foods through the Internet, retail stores in the Upper Midwest and eventually will sell to institutional buyers such as hospitals and schools, professional and collegiate sports teams, and the military, according to the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.
The company is establishing a new healthy, functional food category by producing common grocery items with the highest levels of marine-based EPA/DHA Omega-3 fish oil levels per serving on the market, said Andy Konopacki, company CEO and founder. The company is developing several new food products, including peanut butter, ice cream, pasta sauce, cooking and salad oils, smoothies, Alfredo sauce, frozen yogurt, dressings and more.
“Omega Foods has developed unique technology that enables us to load up mainstream, center-aisle food products typically found in any supermarket with 100 to 300 milligram per serving or more of EPA/DHA Omega-3 and still produce great-tasting premium foods without any fishy taste whatsoever,” Konopacki said.
“In addition, we are able to dramatically reduce the amount of inflammatory Omega-6 found in the oils used in processed foods to achieve a low 4:1 ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3. Too much Omega-6 is greatly responsible for the current obesity and poor health,” Konopacki added.
The firm received Qualified New Business Venture certification from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. According to state officials, Omega Foods, which is eligible for up to $300,000 in tax credits, could create as many as 34 new jobs under the company’s plans to expand its product line.
