High-Tech Firm Expects to Hire Up to 600 Utah Workers Over Next Decade
12/12/2011
Hexcel is one of America's largest producers of carbon fiber and carbon fiber pre-pregs, and has advanced composite facilities located around the world. Its facility in West Valley City is one of its biggest U.S. operations. The company's products are the first step in a local supply chain that ultimately produces structures for large and small commercial airplanes as well as key space and defense programs.
The new positions will be added in several increments in the next decade, and possibly result in a 100 percent increase in Hexcel's West Valley City workforce. It's anticipated that wages for these jobs will be above 125 percent of the average salary (including benefits) in the county.
GOED is supplying major financial assistance via a recently approved one-time, post-performance EDTIF refundable tax credit of $7. 76 million (doled out over the next 10 years). Hexcel plans to make significant capital investments for the expansion over the life of the incentive, while Utah is expected to gain as much as $30 million in new state revenue.
"This expansion is a testament to Utah's position on the leading edge of the advanced composites industry," said Gov. Gary Herbert, "and it will be a major boost to our efforts to accelerate private-sector job creation."
