04/18/2012
"For Magna E-Car Systems, today represents an exciting step forward in the growth and development of our business," said Kevin Pavlov, Chief Operating Officer, Magna E-Car Systems. "We have a team that is second to none, a dedicated and highly skilled workforce, and we have a simple mission: to support our customers and help protect the environment through green technologies."
Initially 95 employees will make electric motors, assorted components, inverters and electronic power train controllers for the Ford Focus Electric, as well as inverters for the Fisker Karma at its facility located at 10456 N. Holly Road that cost an estimated $45 million to build. The firm's employee base is expected to grow into the hundreds as new vehicle models are added over the years.
While the firm did not disclose incentives offered to build the plant, according to public records it received about $5 in Michigan Economic Development Authority tax credits and a $28 million grant from the US Department of Energy.
Including Grand Blanc Township, Magna E-Car Systems now has four facilities in North America and two in Europe working on several programs for some of the world's leading global automakers.
