Regulators Preliminarily Approve Illinois Hydroturbine Project

04/30/2010
Hydro Green Energy, a Houston, Texas-based energy company, has received a preliminary approval from federal regulators to construct three hydroturbine power generators in a section of the Mississippi River near Quincy, Illinois.

"We would like to have the equipment in the water in 2012," said company spokesperson Mark Stover.

The company already operates a hydroturbine in a portion of the river in Minnesota. Each turbine in the Quincy project could produce five to 10 megawatts of energy. While the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved the project's license, Hydro Green Energy must still obtain an operating permit.
