07/02/2014
"We could not be more excited to announce the expansion of our Summerville distribution center. As our e-commerce and intimates businesses continue to grow, we are committed to strategically developing state-of-the-art systems and facilities to better service our customers. The location of the current Summerville facility coupled with our dedicated workforce there make it the ideal place to grow,” Rick Medlin, President/CEO of Fruit of the Loom.
Fruit of the Loom, an independent, wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., currently is proceeding with the regulatory requirements necessary to move forward with the project. It expects to break ground on the expansion in September 2014 and be completed by August 2015. The building, located at 1116 Business Park Road in Summerville, South Carolina, will remain a landfill-free operation and is expected to be LEED certified.
"We are thrilled Fruit of the Loom has chosen our state and their Palmetto Distribution Center for this project. Through this expansion, the company will more than double their current facility and hire 49 new employees - all great things for the hardworking people of Berkeley County,” Governor Nikki Haley said.
"South Carolina's logistics capabilities and market reach make our state ideal for distribution. It's great to see a household brand name like Fruit of the Loom establish a presence and continue to expand here,” Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt added.
