Kellogg Expands Morningstar Farms Plant in Zanesville, Ohio

08/13/2020
Kellogg will invest $43 million to expand its operations center to 50,000 square feet at Northpointe Business Park in Zanesville, Ohio. The company plans to add 40 associates to its workforce in Muskingum County.

Expansion plans for its plant that produces Morningstar Farm products include $25 million to upgrade equipment and $18 million to construct the new facility addition which should be completed by the end of 2021.

“The Zanesville manufacturing plant is home to Morningstar Farms products. Expanding the facility will help us continue to meet consumer demand for their favorite plant-based products," Kellogg Company spokesperson Kris Bahner said. "We look forward to continuing the tax incentive process to bring this expansion to Zanesville.”

Zanesville City Council approved an agreement with Worthington Foods, a Kellogg subsidiary, to provide tax exemptions in accordance with an Ohio Enterprise Zone Program. In addition, the county will provide a tax exemption of 60% for real property improvements over a 10-year term.

Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority Director Matt Abbott told council Kellogg "is one of the better employers in Zanesville and Muskingum County" and is looking forward to what their investment means to the county.

Abbott noted the tax exemption weighs several factors, including capital investment and number of jobs and payroll added, in determining the percent of return to the community.
