Wind Project Brings $290 Million and 1,350 Jobs to Colorado

08/22/2008
Vestas Wind Systems, a manufacturer of wind turbines, will expand its operations in Colorado with a $290 million investment that is expected to create approximately 1,350 new jobs, according to the Colorado governor's office. The Denmark-based company will build two new manufacturing facilities in Brighton, Colorado, including a blade manufacturing plant that will produce 1,800 blades per year and a nacelle assembly plant - nacelles are turbine housing units that sit atop towers - that will produce 1,400 nacelles per year; the nacelle plant will be Vestas' largest in the world. The company also plans to open a technology and production engineering office at a location to be determined. Vestas officials cited access to rail and highways, the state's work force, and a favorable business climate as key to the location decision.
