According to company officials, the rebuilding project is proceeding according to schedule. Staffing is underway, and when fully operational the plant is expected to produce 155,000 tons of Special High Grade zinc metal annually.
AZR further reported that it will be repairing and replacing with state of the art equipment portions of AZR Corp.’s electric arc furnace dust recycling facility in Calumet, Illinois; In addition, the company is actively pursuing other potential sites to enable it to expand its EAF dust recycling capability, which is the largest in the North America.
Rodrigo Daud, AZR’s CEO, stated, “We have been investing in our recycling facilities during the last 2 years to improve safety, strengthen environmental controls and enhance operations. We are also continuously working to strengthen our relationships with our communities and other stakeholders. The decision to invest in significant improvements to facilities shows AZR’s commitment to enhancing our competitive position as the largest recycler of EAF dust in North America, providing outstanding service to our valued customers and being an important part of local communities.”
“I’m very excited to see the progress we are making in Rutherford County,” Daud continued. Once operational, our facility will allow AZR Corp. to offer services that will close the zinc recycling loop, as AZR Corp. will be the only company in North America that be able to recycle the EAF dust into SHG zinc.
