Ellwood Group Plans Aluminum Facility in Hubbard, Ohio

09/21/2018
A leading supplier of world-class, high-quality metals and custom-engineered components, Ellwood Group Inc., is constructing a new aluminum casting facility at its Ellwood Engineered Castings site in Hubbard, Ohio.

According to the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber, the new 70,000 square-foot Ellwood Aluminum manufacturing plant will expand the materials production capabilities of the 108-year-old company for the first time beyond its historical focus, steel, to better serve the tool and die, aerospace forging, plate mill rolling, and extrusion industries.

Ellwood is investing more than $60 million to expand upon its existing building footprint and infrastructure in Hubbard, equipping the new facility with the latest advanced technology in aluminum melting and casting.

Once operational, Ellwood Aluminum will employ approximately 30 permanent, full-time personnel and produce a projected 150 million pounds of large round billet and slabs. Construction of the new facility will begin in the coming months and is expected to be fully commissioned by the first quarter of 2020.

Trumbull County Commissioners approved a 60 percent, 10-year enterprise zone agreement with the company for the new facility.

Ben Huffman, COO of Ellwood Group, said, “This significant investment clearly demonstrates Ellwood’s unwavering commitment to serve our customers and expand and develop new markets. We decided on Hubbard as the site of our new facility because of its location relative to our potential market, its exceptional workforce and the comprehensive incentive package and assistance provided at both the state and local levels. Overall, we are excited to grow our presence in the Mahoning Valley and bring new jobs and opportunities to the region.

The new Federal Tax Laws are a big shot in the arm, helping to justify this important project, bringing high-paying manufacturing jobs back to Ohio and the United States. We appreciate the President’s efforts to make that happen,” he added.

The announcement of Ellwood’s investment in Hubbard supports the continuing economic growth in the Valley, a Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber official said today.

“This announcement has been a long time coming, as the Chamber has been working with Ellwood’s leadership for more than 18 months, and we couldn’t be more pleased to see the project move forward,” said Lauren Johnson, Manager of 422 Project and Business Development at the Regional Chamber. “Securing this investment for Hubbard Township involved several economic development partners, including state and local officials. This is a big win for our community.”

Johnson noted that the Regional Chamber worked with the company directly and provided a significant amount of project support, including detailed aluminum supply chain information, securing needed utility upgrades and coordination of economic development assistance from Hubbard Township, the Ohio Rail Development Commission and State of Ohio.

“We are pleased that Ellwood’s investment will bring a new aluminum line and 50 more manufacturing jobs to its Hubbard facility,” said Glenn Richardson, JobsOhio Managing Director for Advanced Manufacturing. “Ellwood has several facilities in the country where it could have chosen to expand, and we and our local partners are excited to see the company grow here in the Valley.”

“It is thrilling that Ellwood is moving forward with this major investment,” said Walter Good, Senior Director, JobsOhio Regional Office at Team NEO. “Ellwood is a very important component to Trumbull County’s manufacturing base, and their plans demonstrate the firm’s strong commitment to the Valley. The close collaboration between the company and economic development team to ensure success was and is inspiring.”
