New York Fork Lift Manufacturer Adding 100 Jobs in Consolidation

09/23/2009
Raymond Corporation, a manufacturer of fork-lift and reach trucks for warehouse operations, will consolidate some assembly operations at its headquarters and manufacturing center in Greene, New York, according to the New York governor's office. The consolidation will create up to 100 new jobs and 740 existing jobs at the New York facility, which was slated for layoffs and potential relocation to Indiana. Raymond will close a factory in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, and move the assembly of its Reach Lift products to Greene. "Supporting U.S. manufacturing is essential to economic growth in our country," says Jim Malvaso, Raymond's president and CEO. "The state's partnership allows us to continue developing innovative solutions to best serve our customers and our talented work force." Malvaso tells the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin that the decision to consolidate was based on a 60 percent decline in orders in the overall North American market and a need to boost the company's engineering and manufacturing efficiencies. The state has offered Raymond Corporation $3 million in development grants.
