G & W Electric Moves Into State-Of-The-Art Headquarters, Retains 400 Jobs In Chicago Suburbs.

06/14/2012
An electrical systems designer, G&W Electric, moved into its new 377,000-square-foot research and development, manufacturing center and headquarters at Crossroads Business Park in Bolingbrook, Illinois, hiring 30 new employees, while retaining another 400 jobs in the southern Chicago suburb.

G&W Electric manufactures high voltage electrical equipment, circuit breakers, electrical fuses, and circuit breakers.

G &W officials said the firm contemplated moving out of state but did not want to lose good employees, so it chose to relocate from its cramped home base of more than a half-century in Blue Island, another Chicago suburb, slightly to the west and new state-of-the-art campus in Bolingbrook, Ill. The firm also liked its proximity to major transportation corridors.

A package of incentives designed to keep the firm in the Chicago area included the village of Bolingbrook waving impact fees and other construction charges, along with tax incentives and grants provided by the state and county. The company also received $24 million in federal recovery stimulus bonds, with another $24 million added by Will County. Funds were also provided to upgrade electrical utilities for the new plant and improve the roadway.
