Japan-Based Oji Intertech Expands Manufacturing at North Manchester, Indiana Complex
The company, which is a subsidiary of Tokyo-headquartered Oji Interpack Co. Ltd, will invest $4.5 million to double its 80,000-square-foot plant at 906 W. Hanley Road in North Manchester, adding another 80,000 square feet to support its quickly-growing U.S. client base.
Oji Intertech, which specializes in compression molding, diecutting, assembly and extrusion coating, plans to upgrade its machinery and equipment to allow for an additional two molding lines starting in 2020. Scheduled to be fully operational by 2022, these enhancements will help the company boost its production of components for the automotive and industrial packaging industries.
“The additional investment into our North Manchester facility is the direct result of the sustained efforts of our employees and the positive business environment that both the state and county have created," said Rick Sereno, President of Oji Intertech.
Founded as Eften Inc. in 1985, the company moved to North Manchester in 1998 and changed its name to Oji Intertech in 2002 to closely align with its parent company. Oji Intertech offers innovative products for its customers while maintaining high-quality standards, superior delivery performance and cost-competitive pricing.
Oji Intertech, which also has a location in Michigan, currently has 101 full-time associates at its North Manchester-based facility. The company has started hiring and plans to add manufacturing positions focused in production molding.
As an incentive, Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Oji Intertech up to $175,000 in conditional tax credits and $100,000 in training grants based on the company’s job creation plans. These incentives are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The town of North Manchester approved a 10-year personal and real property tax abatement at the request of Grow Wabash County at a town council meeting on July 11.
“Oji Intertech’s decision to expand in Wabash County continues a long trend of Japanese companies choosing Indiana for growth,” said Indiana Secretary of Commerce Jim Schellinger. “As we work to strengthen Indiana’s global economy, we’re committed to building stronger relationships with long-term investors like Oji Intertech and with our government and industry partners abroad. We're proud of our strong partnership with Japan, which now supports 290 business facilities in Indiana, and look forward to even more milestones ahead thanks to companies like Oji Intertech.”
“We are thrilled that Oji Intertech has continued to grow in their operation in North Manchester,” said Toby Tobias, president of the North Manchester Town Council. “We have enjoyed a great relationship with Oji for over 30 years, and they have a large impact on our local economy. We are happy to build upon our continued partnership.”
