A tentative labor agreement between the Ford Motor Company and the United Auto Workers, which has to be ratified by plant workers, would generate a $900 million investment at the Chicago Assembly Plant on Torrence Avenue and create approximately 200 new jobs at the plant.

Under the proposed four-year agreement, which has been approved by Ford and UAW leadership, the Chicago Assembly Plant will receive a $900 million investment to support production of the new Explorer and Police Interceptor, continued production of the Taurus, and a new product that will be announced at a later date, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s Office said.

Production of the new vehicle would create approximately 200 jobs at the plant, in addition to the existing 4,400 employees. The plant employed 3,200 people in 2011. The agreement also includes employee incentives that would create a near-term infusion of more than $54 million into the Chicago area.

“Ford’s investment in Chicago under this agreement will create high-paying jobs and ensure the Torrence Avenue plant continues to grow for years to come,” Mayor Emanuel said. “Ford knows that Chicago’s workforce, transportation systems and quality of life are second to none, and this contract is a win for both Ford’s workers and the South Side of Chicago.”
