A firm focusing on production and distribution of value-added peat-based products for professional gardeners in North America, Premier Tech, opened its new Rexton, New Brunswick, Canada, plant integrating the most recent technologies in the sphagnum peat moss industry.

The expansion and modernization of the plant follows the signing of a financial partnership agreement with Invest New Brunswick, for up to $1 million and of a refundable loan, of up to $1.5 million, from the federal government, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.

In addition to reaffirming the manufacturing presence of its Business Unit Premier Tech Horticulture in New Brunswick, the 90-year old firm said opening of this installation will lead to the creation of 33 new jobs.

This project is the result of a joint effort from Premier Tech's teams in its equipment and horticulture sectors. Representing a total investment of close to $5 million, the expansion will allow the deployment of manufacturing and commercial strategies, while increasing Premier Tech Horticulture's sphagnum peat moss reserves in Eastern Canada.

Company officials said “driven by a conscience to preserve the environment, Premier Tech Horticulture is an active player in the Canadian and international movement towards responsible management of peatlands. The company operates 10 plants and 20 peat moss harvesting sites in Canada.”
