Amazon plans to open two new logistics facilities in Merrillville and Valparaiso, Indiana.

The Valparaiso location will be located at 2200 Memorial Parkway in the Lakes of Valparaiso development and is expected to employ more than 100 people, according to company officials. The Valparaiso City Council granted a tax abatement when the shell building was constructed but the city did not offer Amazon any additional financial incentives, the city noted.

“We’re excited to continue to invest in the state of Indiana with five new delivery stations that will provide efficient delivery for customers, and create hundreds of job opportunities for the state’s talented workforce. These new delivery stations represent Amazon’s unwavering commitment to safety, technological innovations and skilled teams who are obsessed with delivering for our customers.” said Amazon Spokesperson Jessica Pawl.

In Merrillville, Amazon Logistics will occupy a 141,360-square-foot facility on a 35-acre tract at the Ameriplex at the Crossroads Business Park, Bella added. The facility, expected to be operational in late fall 2021, represents a projected investment of $30 million in land, facilities and equipment, bringing more than 300 jobs to the community.

In addition, Amazon plans to open delivery stations in Indianapolis and Greenfield this year with a facility in South Bend already opening in February. All sites are expected to create hundreds of jobs.

Each of Amazon’s new delivery stations will be designed to meet the needs of the company’s electric delivery vehicles, Pawl noted. Amazon hopes to put 10,000 electric delivery vehicles on the road next year.
