Georgetown University: Help Wanted: Projections of Jobs and Education Requirements Through 2018

Georgetown University's Center on Education and the Workforce predicts a significant gap between employers' work force needs and employee training.

Help Wanted, a report by the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, predicts a growing disconnect between the jobs employers will need to fill and the number of Americans with the appropriate training to fill those jobs.

By 2018, 63 percent of American jobs will require some postsecondary education. However, the country will fall short of 3 million workers by that time.

"America needs more workers with college degrees, certificates and industry certifications," said Anthony P. Carnevale, the Center's director. "If we don't address this need now, millions of jobs could go offshore."

The report doesn't predict substantial employment gains until 2011, and it won't be until 2015 for job creation to reach where it would have been before the losses of the recession.
