Schaeffler Group USA Invests $163.8 Million To Expand Three South Carolina Manufacturing Plants
01/12/2015
The firm’s Palmetto State operations focus on the manufacturing of bearings, bearing components, automotive components, motor elements, UniAir components, hydraulic lash adjusters, tappets, chains and precision and linear products.
“Schaeffler is pleased to expand our production in Fort Mill, which solidifies our overall commitment to the State of South Carolina, City of Fort Mill and York County. This new production space and machinery will expand based on the skills of our manufacturing team but also require additional education for new state of the art technologies,” said Schaeffler Americas CEO Bruce Warmbold.
The expansion of Schaeffler’s Chesterfield and York County operations will include adding to its existing facilities as well as the purchase of new, upgraded equipment. Its investment in the company’s Spartanburg County plant will include the addition of new equipment. All expansions are expected to be completed by the end of 2016.
As an incentive, the Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits related to the Chesterfield and York County projects.
Germany-based Schaeffler Group USA’s Corporate Offices are located in York County, where the company also operates two production plants, both of which are located at 308 Springhill Farm Road in Fort Mill. In addition, the company currently operates three plants in Chesterfield County, one of which is located at 170 Calvary Lane in Cheraw, South Carolina. The company’s other two Chesterfield County plants are located on the same site at 301 Highway 1 South in Cheraw, South Carolina. Schaeffler’s Spartanburg County facility is located at 1298 New Cut Road in Spartanburg.
“Congratulations to Schaeffler Group North America in their decision to expand operations in York County, South Carolina. Our Council is committed to assisting existing firms that want to add quality jobs and investment. We look to continue to support the growth of international firms in York County and know that with our pro-business team we can bring positive results in the state and along the fast growing I-77 corridor,” said York County Council Chairman Dr. Britt Blackwell.
