Geithner Sworn In as Treasury Secretary

Timothy F. Geithner has been sworn in as the Secretary of the Treasury after being confirmed for the position by the U.S. Senate; the vote for his confirmation was 60 in favor and 34 against. In remarks at his swearing-in ceremony, Geithner promised swift action on initiatives aimed at jump-starting the credit markets and the broader economy. "We are at a moment of maximum challenge for our economy and for our country," he said. "In the world we confront today, Treasury will be a source of bold initiative."
