Prime Therapeutics Plans $18.1 Million Plant Facility In Orlando, Florida, Creating 213 Jobs In The Region

Prime Therapeutics, a pharmacy benefit management company, plans an $18.1 Million investment to open a 55,000 square foot facility in Orlando, Florida,'s Southridge Commerce Park, with estimates of creating 213 jobs during the next three years.

"We are excited to create this foothold in Florida and create new jobs for Orange County and for Prime," said Eric Elliott, president and CEO of Prime. "We have been impressed with the level of support among the organizations in this state, and look forward to calling Florida home as we've done with our other operations in Minnesota, Texas, New Mexico and Nebraska. Prime has hired, and will continue to hire, pharmacists, pharmaceutical technicians, licensed practical nurses, registered nurses and medical billing and customer service representatives."

"Today's move is another strong step in the right direction for Florida and an example of how our state is open for business," said Gov. Rick Scott. "The State of Florida, Enterprise Florida, Orange County, the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission, CNL Real Estate Group, Progress Energy and Workforce Florida have been important partners in this successful corporate expansion project. Prime Therapeutics' move to Florida shows we are making strides in the health and medical services arena," Gov. Scott said. "This is an important sector for new job creation, and we strengthen the capacity for it when we attract growing, high-level companies."

"As we work to diversify Orange County's economy, the addition of Prime complements our growing life sciences industry," said Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs. "This is great news for Orange County and we welcome Prime to our community."

The local Metro Orlando EDC said it worked closely with Prime over the last several months, assisting with information on the business climate, workforce, employer interviews with companies from the region's specialty pharmacy cluster, and incentives facilitation. "We are pleased with the expansion of Prime to Orange County as this represents success in one of our priority sectors in the coming year - specialty pharmaceuticals," said Rick L. Weddle, president and CEO of the Metro Orlando EDC. To persuade the firm to open a plant in Central Florida, Orlando County provided the firm with impact fee reductions and tax incentives of more than $700,000.

Progress Energy Florida, the electric provider in the area, worked closely with the Metro Orlando EDC and others on the recruitment efforts and package to entice Prime to locate in Florida over competing sites in Missouri and Pennsylvania. The utility offers incentives to new companies relocating to the Sunshine State, reducing their electric costs.

"Economic development is a team effort," says Alex Glenn, incoming Duke Energy state president - Florida. "We focus on collaborating with business and economic development partners at the local, state and regional levels. These partnerships fuel successes such as Prime's new Orlando operations and the hundreds of skilled jobs that come with it."
