U.S. Firms Face Fewer Lawsuits

12/10/2007

Although U.S. companies enjoyed an overall drop in the number of lawsuits filed against them in the past year, 83 percent of U.S. firms were, in fact, hit with at least one new lawsuit in 2006-2007.

According to the law firm Fulbright & Jaworski's fourth survey of litigation trends in the United States and the United Kingdom, 17 percent of the 250 U.S. respondents said their firms had not experienced a new lawsuit in the past year, as compared with only 11 percent who could make that claim the previous year.

Nonetheless, the cost of lawsuits remains quite high, with 40 percent of the U.S. law firms saying they had at least one lawsuit filed against them in the past year exceeding $20 million in damages.
