Newcomb Spring Corp. To Relocate To Expanded Plant Facility In Gastonia, North Carolina
09/24/2013
The company said its move, to new facility located at 2633 Plastics Drive in Gastonia, less than 20 miles from its previous location in Charlotte, will allow it to increase its production capabilities, providing faster turnarounds, low costs and a more diverse array of manufacturing and secondary operations. Officials expect to be operating out of the new location by October.
More than a million dollars of new equipment has been installed at the location, increasing the plant’s output capacity and doubling material wire size capabilities from .080 to .162 inches in diameter, company officials explained. New technology will also eliminate many manual operations, automating wire forming processes to achieve higher levels of accuracy and compliance. Additional quality control technologies, including the latest torque testing, load testing, dimensional laser and photographic measurement equipment have also been installed, improving levels of repeatability and precision.
“We’re very excited to be up and running at our new facility,” said Keith Porter, Jr., General Manager at Newcomb Spring of Carolina. “Newcomb has made a significant investment in outfitting the plant with state-of-the-art technology and equipment. We’re increasing our material size capabilities, improving our secondary operations and building an extremely versatile wire forming operation. I believe we will be the most advanced spring and metal forming company in the southern United States when complete, with cutting edge technologies that far exceed the industry standard.”
The company said it purchased the new location, formerly a commercial warehouse, and is upgrading the building to fit the needs of its modern manufacturing operations. New communication technologies, upgraded electrical, efficient environmental controls and interior renovations are being completed at the facility. Newcomb Spring officials said they expect to invest almost a half million dollars in the building improvements.
“This new location has provided us with a great opportunity,” continued Porter. “Not only are we expanding, but we’ve also been able to build a modern manufacturing environment specifically designed for spring and metal forming operations. We have specific areas for tooling, QC, secondary operations, material storage, packaging and front-office staff. The new layout means orders can flow efficiently through the plant and we can expand our operations.”
The firm said it expects a seamless transition during the move to its new facility, and is planning to run both plants simultaneously for a short time period, eliminating any equipment and output downtime.
“Customers can rest assured that we will continue to provide unparalleled service and responsiveness during the move,” said Porter. “We look forward to working out of this new location, the ability to respond faster and more effectively to our customers, and to having a facility that can respond to our growing needs.”
