Columbus Castings Invests $16 Million To Upgrade And Expand Its Columbus, Ohio, Manufacturing Hub
10/01/2014
“We are increasing our production capacity to meet the growing demand for Columbus Castings’ products, all made here in America,” said Joseph Haviv, Chairman of Columbus Castings, which has operated in Columbus since 1881. “We couldn’t have attempted this exciting expansion without the tremendous support we have received in Columbus. Our roots are in Ohio and we are thrilled to grow in Columbus.”
The renovation will include new machinery and equipment that enable expansion of all sectors of the company’s business. The new positions added by the firm will include a range of manufacturing jobs, but most of the growth will be in the production lines. The company anticipates completing renovations and doubling its workforce by late 2017, according to Columbus 2020.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better employer to have stuck around Columbus for more than 100 years,” said Mayor Michael B. Coleman. “We’re thrilled about this expansion, and know it will be greatly beneficial to the south side of Columbus. We’re proud that Columbus Castings calls our city home and look forward to seeing its continued success for another century.”
The century-old company has set in place a number of environmentally responsible initiatives in recent years and now intends to recycle its foundry sand, a Columbus 2020 spokesperson said. The company processes some 50,000 tons of recycled steel every year and with its new investment in sand reclamation will be able to reach new heights in environmental sustainability.
