3Q 2010 Slowest Since 2007 for Wind Installations, AWEA Says

10/29/2010
The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) says the third quarter of 2010 was the slowest since 2007 in terms of wind energy installations. The United States added 395 megawatts of wind-powered energy in the third quarter. Year-to-date installations dropped 72 percent compared to 2009, the lowest level since 2006.

"We're increasing our dependence on fossil fuels, impacting our national security, instead of diversifying our portfolio to include more renewables," said Denise Bode, CEO of AWEA, the national trade association of over 2,500 companies.

Europe and China are swiftly overtaking the United States in terms of wind power installed, AWEA reports. The association attributes this to a lack of long-term U.S. energy policies, and a resulting lack of business confidence in wind power.
