House of Representatives Passes Manufacturing Legislature, Likely to Stall in Senate
07/30/2010
The National Manufacturing Strategy Act will create a four-year national manufacturing strategy to promote the U.S. sector across the globe. The other bills contain hundreds of tariff suspensions and reductions, and work force training investments.
"Make It in America is not just about manufacturing in America, it's about succeeding in America," said House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD). "Americans have always looked to the manufacturing sector as a source of economic vitality and as a source of pride."
The bills will likely be delayed in the Senate, as the body does not plan to review them before the August recess. It is also uncertain whether the proposals will be voted on in September.
Critics of the legislation say it won't have much effect until trade treaties with Colombia and South Korea proceed.
