Amazon.com to Establish Sorting-Distribution Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Amazon.com will lease a 250,000-square-foot warehouse to establish a Distribution Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s West End, with plans to create 100 jobs. The site will serve as an Amazon "sort center," a facility where customer orders are sorted and consolidated for faster delivery.

The location, which also houses startup ModCloth, is part of Amazon's network of sort centers that the company is aiming to increase from 8 to 15 by the end of this year, according to the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance. The centers allow Amazon to deliver products more quickly and on time, including on Sundays.

With access to downtown Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh International Airport and two major highways, the West End is as an attractive location for this type of distribution and logistics operation, Pittsburgh Regional Alliance officials said.
