Amazon Expands Detroit, Michigan, Operation Hub
09/29/2015
Currently, Amazon leases space on one floor downtown where nearly 100 employees work. This expansion will grow Amazon to multiple floors in early 2016 to create a new tech hub that will be paired with its existing hub in Seattle, Washington. These new jobs in Detroit will be software development, engineers, and advertising sales.
“There’s a recognition that Detroit is not just a place for Detroiters or Michiganders, but a place for people around the world,” Governor Rick Snyder said, speaking to roughly 100 attendees. “This is about attracting people that otherwise wouldn’t come to Amazon or Detroit.”
“Every day we have new jobs coming to Michigan. The jobs here at Amazon are exactly the kind of jobs we want- high-tech jobs that help to keep our wonderful homegrown talent in-state,” the governor said.
This project is one more example of why we call Michigan the Comeback State, the Governor added. Thanks to the state’s revamped business climate, companies can grow and thrive here. We’ve reformed our tax code, eliminated burdensome rules and regulations, and created a job-friendly environment.
