Frito-Lay Eyes Poinciana, Florida, High-Tech Service Center
08/22/2018
Frito-Lay is a division of PepsiCo, which already has a decades-long history in Osceola County with another division’s nearby Gatorade plant, as well as a strong presence across the state. On Monday, the project was introduced to the County Commission as Frito-Lay. Company executives presented plans for a facility that will employ 200, and be completed by 2021. The 286,000-square-foot service center for Frito-Lay in Osceola County will allow for continued growth in the county and the surrounding communities.
According to county officials, as a first-of-its-kind facility for Frito-Lay, the service center will utilize high-tech equipment to fulfill customer orders. Frito-Lay is committed to implementing new technologies to maximize energy efficiency at its facilities and the new service center will also feature these design principles.
A final agreement with Frito-Lay will come back to the board for a formal vote on a property tax abatement, the only incentive the company is seeking, within the next couple of months, according to a company spokesman. It would be the first time Osceola County has awarded a tax abatement to an economic development project since the incentive was created nearly a decade ago.
“It’s wonderful that Frito-Lay is creating these new jobs in Osceola County,” said Commission Chairman, Fred Hawkins, Jr. “At the same time, the commitment to the environment and sustainability is a model for others, and is certainly something that fits the core values of our community and its unique natural resources. We look forward to the completion of this project and we take pride in the fact that Frito-Lay picked Osceola County for this state-of-the art facility.”
