Sunstrand Eyes Pamplico, South Carolina, for Biomaterial Manufacturing Campus

05/24/2018
Sunstrand is locating new biomaterial manufacturing operations at 1728 North River Road in Pamplico, South Carolina. The company is projected to bring $8.4 million of capital investment, leading to the creation of 42 new jobs in Florence County.

Working closely with farming partners to procure natural materials, Sunstrand, LLC produces bulk biomaterials to preform manufacturers, wastewater remediation companies and animal bedding distributors across North America. The company is an industry-leading supplier of natural fiber reinforcements and fillers for a variety of industries and is North America’s only commercial decorticator of technical grade bast fibers.

The company’s 140,000-square-foot facility is projected to come online in early 2019. Hiring for the new positions should begin in the fourth quarter of 2018.

As an incentive, the Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to this project.

“Sunstrand is excited about our expansion into South Carolina. This investment will see the deployment of a major processing facility that builds a new industry from the ground up. Considering our need for world-class farmers, an accessible workforce and access to manufacturers in the region, South Carolina is the perfect location,” said Sunstrand CEO Trey Riddle.

“We’re proud to welcome Sunstrand, LLC to the South Carolina business community. With a workforce at its disposal that’s second to none and one of the most competitive business environments in the world, we know that Sunstrand will have all the tools necessary for success here,” Governor Henry McMaster said.

“South Carolina has a rich history in the advanced materials sector, and today’s announcement by Sunstrand, LLC shows that this industry continues to flourish in the Palmetto State. We congratulate this innovative company on their new operations and look forward to all they’ll be able to achieve in Florence County,” said Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt.

“Florence County has a long and proud agricultural history. Sunstrand is building on this history to create cutting-edge products used in boat and car manufacturing, construction materials and cooking utensils. All of this from plants that are ideally situated to grow in our community.” S.C. Senate President Pro Tempore Hugh K. Leatherman noted.

“Job creation and investment in rural areas help power the success of our county as a whole. Sunstrand is good news for Pamplico, Florence County and the Pee Dee area,” added Florence County Economic Development Partnership Chairman Frank J. “Buddy” Brand.

"As we cultivate a new agricultural industry in South Carolina, Sunstrand will make a tremendous difference to our growers and to the people of Florence County. Sunstrand's $8.4 million investment in South Carolina is a tribute to our agribusiness-friendly climate, our deep agricultural roots and our commitment to rural growth,”- S.C. Agriculture Commissioner Hugh Weathers explained.
