India-Based Cable Manufacturer Investing $32 Million for Kentucky Plant

Chandra Proteco Ltd., an India-headquartered manufacturer of copper cable, will invest US$32 million to start a manufacturing company in Morgantown, Kentucky, according to the Kentucky governor's office. The company, which will be named Kentucky Cooper Inc., will create 106 new jobs. The 163,000-square-foot plant will include manufacturing and distribution operations, office space, and a technology center. The copper cable made at the plant will be used in power transformers, energy transmission and distribution lines, and high-speed trains. "We are delighted to bring the extensive experience of our parent company, Chandra Copper, to Kentucky, alogn with a commitment to be an active part of the community and the commonwealth," says Mukul Gupta, Kentucky Copper's president. The state has provided Chandra Proteco up to $6 million in tax incentives, contingent on job creation.
