P.E.I. Aerospace Flourishes

Location Canada 2010
Aerospace research and development is growing in Prince Edward Island with a new Slemon Park facility from MDS-PRAD Technologies Corporation. The company currently employs 62 people, and expects to add another 120 within three years.

"Support from both the provincial and federal governments has been incredible, and our employees have responded well to every challenge we have faced," said Phil Rodger, president of MDS-PRAD.

MDS-PRAD is a partnership between the Canadian MDS Aero Support Corporation and the Russian Ural Works of Civil Aviation (PRAD). At the Prince Edward Island plant, it will adapt Russian technologies to create compressor blade coatings for jet engines.

The company is also working with Prince Edward Island's Holland College to train the next generation of aerospace workers. "Training is a good investment," Rodger said. "With Holland College Aerospace next door, we know that our employees will receive the proper training to grow our business successfully."
