Top-Notch Resources
As the largest comprehensive research university in the western two-thirds of the state, Texas Tech University welcomes innovative and visionary research projects in our community. Texas Tech is eager to partner with enterprises and offer expertise to these ventures to enable growth.
In addition, Lubbock hosts one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the nation, South Plains College. With its many career pathways leading into the work force and/or universities, Lubbock is building and sustaining a qualified, skilled labor pool. And, Lubbock is home to one of the leading advanced technology centers in the state and nation. Lubbock's cost of doing business continues to rank as one of the lowest in the nation. And, as a pro-business community, Lubbock has some of the lowest costs in Texas. In addition to providing affordable land, the community offers low-cost electricity and natural gas, competitive wage rates, an overall lower cost of living, low property taxes, and other manageable business-related expenses.
Lubbock Business Park
Lubbock Economic Development Alliance (LEDA) owns and operates the Lubbock Business Park, a 586-acre tract of land located off of Interstate 27, approximately one mile south of Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport and two FBOs (fixed-base operators). Currently O'Reilly Auto Parts Distribution Center and WesTX Packaging Company/Standard Bag Manufacturing reside in the park. In the very near future, Monsanto and Standard Sales/Anheuser-Busch will begin operations there as well. In addition, Verizon will be breaking ground at the park in the next year.
LEDA has invested more than $22 million in the Lubbock Business Park and is working hard to attract more distribution centers, manufacturing businesses, high-tech companies, and research and development organizations. With the immediate access to the interstate and a strong local economy, the park has brought new economic activity to Lubbock. LEDA continues to strive for new jobs and new capital investment for the city and feels the Lubbock Business Park is the ideal location for growth and investment.
Lubbock Rail Port
The Lubbock Rail Port, located on over 526 acres, only a few miles north of the Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport, provides companies with convenient access to the airport and on-site access to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) rail system. Mexico-based Molinos Anahuac (MACSA) currently has its first U.S.-run flour mill and laboratory in the Lubbock Rail Port.
With the recently acquired 200 additional acres and the $1.5 million U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration grant to extend additional rail into the complex, activity will soon be increasing at the Rail Port. LEDA strives to attract food processors, light manufacturing, as well as heavy industrial companies to the Rail Port.
With a world-class university system, a high-quality operating environment, competitive cost environment, and an integrated approach to addressing economic development and work force issues, Lubbock is the place to do business.
