Magnetic Instrument Manufacturer Expanding in Louisiana

10/30/2009
Orion Instruments, a manufacturer of sensing and processing instrumentation for use in magnetic level indicators, will invest $5 million to expand its operations in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, according to the Louisiana governor's office. The company plans to create 35 new jobs at an average annual salary of $40,000 plus benefits, along with retaining 70 existing positions. Orion, a subsidiary of Magnetrol International, will relocate from its current 18,000-square-foot facility in Baton Rouge to a 60,000-square-foot site elsewhere in the city. "No one predicted how successful this little company could become in eight short years," says Jeff Swallow, Magnetrol's executive vice president and COO. "However, we will expand and continue the growth cycle for as long as we can, up to and including either adding on or moving to even a larger facility in the next eight years." The state is providing incentives that include a five-year, $350,000 loan and tax breaks; the parish will also provide tax rebates.
