04/14/2026
The $4 billion project will enhance production capabilities at the company’s existing facility, which produces a range of luxury SUVs and electric vehicles.
“These vehicles don’t just carry the Mercedes star. They carry the passion, precision and pride of an entire region,” said Ola Källenius, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz. “This state and the spirit of its people have always been an inspiration to us.”
Mercedes-Benz manufactures luxury vehicles at its Tuscaloosa County facility, including the GLE, GLS, and EQS SUV models, serving customers in the U.S. and international markets.
“Mercedes-Benz is a true Alabama success story that is an example for companies across our state and those who have yet to call us home,” noted Ellen McNair, Secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce. “With each expansion and each new model, this plant, its workforce and the surrounding community have consistently exceeded expectations.”
“When a company like Mercedes-Benz continues to invest at this scale, it reinforces Tuscaloosa County’s position as a global leader in automotive manufacturing,” added Steven Rumsey, Chair of the Tuscaloosa County Economic Development Authority. “This expansion strengthens our industrial base and reflects the confidence global manufacturers have in our workforce and community.”
