Devro Expands Calhoun County, South Carolina, Operations

Food manufacturing company Devro plans to expand its operations in Swansea, South Carolina. The project is expected to create 19 jobs in Calhoun County.

The investment will include the addition of a new processing line at the company’s existing facility to support the preparation of raw materials and increase production capacity.

“Devro is excited to continue investing in Calhoun County and the state of South Carolina. This expansion reflects our confidence in the region's talented workforce, strong business environment and long-term growth opportunities. The additional capacity and infrastructure improvements will strengthen our ability to serve customers while creating new career opportunities and supporting the local community for years to come,” said Devro Procurement, Supply and Logistics Manager Steven Crapps.

To support the project, the Coordinating Council for Economic Development awarded a $250,000 Set-Aside grant to Calhoun County to assist with the costs of site preparation and building construction.

“We congratulate Devro on its expansion in Calhoun County. Agriculture and manufacturing are two of South Carolina’s key industries, and we are excited to see the company’s ongoing growth in our state,” noted South Carolina Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III.

Devro is a manufacturer of collagen-based edible films, coatings, casings, and related products for the global food industry, particularly meat and sausage producers.

“Our region’s ability to support and grow existing industry is evident in Devro’s decision to expand in Calhoun County. We are proud to support companies as they grow, create opportunities and contribute to the communities they call home. Devro’s expansion is a significant milestone for the company and a testament to the strength and continued growth of the food and beverage industry across Central South Carolina,” added Central SC Alliance Chairman Tushar Chikhliker.
