British-Based Horse Powertrain USA Plans Southfield, Michigan, Operations

09/11/2026
British-based powertrain technology company Horse Powertrain USA Inc. plans to establish operations in Southfield, Michigan. The more than $1 million project is expected to create at least 32 jobs.

The company's new approximately 8,000-square-foot facility will serve as its U.S. management hub for research and development, purchasing, sales, marketing, government affairs, and finance.

“Having been born, raised, and spent most of my career in Michigan, it’s a privilege to open Horse Powertrain’s North America office in Southfield,” said Horse Powertrain USA President Thomas Lewis. “This move marks the next step of our journey, allowing us to directly support local automakers by collaborating with them in deploying our next-gen combustion and hybrid powertrains in their vehicles. In the long-term, our aim is to establish a wider set of business functions in the US and establish Horse Powertrain as a major player in the North American automotive ecosystem.”

To support the project, the Michigan Strategic Fund awarded the company a $260,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant.

“Welcoming Horse Powertrain’s North American headquarters to Southfield is a great win for our region,” added Detroit Regional Partnership President and CEO Justin Robinson. “Investments like this demonstrate the strength of our automotive ecosystem and, through collaboration with our partners, bring high-quality jobs and meaningful economic impact to our communities. We thank Horse Powertrain for choosing the Detroit Region and investing in our community.”

Horse Powertrain USA is the U.S. subsidiary of U.K.-based Horse Powertrain Ltd., a powertrain technology company that provides integrated systems and advanced engineering services to automotive manufacturers.
