Nucor Expands Decatur, Alabama, Manufacturing Operations

10/24/2026
Steel and steel products manufacturer Nucor Corporation plans to expand its operations in Decatur, Alabama. The $60 million project is expected to create 60 jobs in Morgan County.

The investment will increase production capacity at the company's Nucor Towers & Structures facility to meet growing demand for steel utility poles used in electric transmission infrastructure.

“Our continued growth in Alabama reflects Nucor’s longstanding commitment to the state and its communities,” said Nucor Corporation Chair and CEO Leon Topalian. “The expansion of our Towers & Structures production facility in Decatur will help us meet the strong demand from utilities across the country that are making significant investments to strengthen and modernize the nation’s power grid. We appreciate the support we have received from state and local officials in Alabama, including Governor Ivey, the Alabama Department of Commerce, the Morgan County Economic Development Authority and the Industrial Development Board of the City of Decatur.”

To support the project, Nucor is eligible for incentives through Alabama's Jobs Act credits and workforce training assistance from Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT).

“Nucor is the largest steel and steel-products manufacturer in North America and is a critical link in our nation’s manufacturing and construction supply chain,” noted Alabama Commerce Secretary Ellen McNair. “We are proud that Nucor has again chosen Alabama for an expansion, recognizing our commitment to providing the skilled workforce, infrastructure and community partners that will help it continue to succeed.”

Nucor Corporation specializes in steel production and the manufacturing of steel products for construction, infrastructure, energy and industrial markets. The company produces structural steel, sheet steel, tubular products, joists, decking, metal building systems and utility structures.

“We’re fortunate they exceeded what their commitments were to this community above and beyond,” added Morgan County Economic Development Association President and CEO Jeremy Nails. “That is economic development right there.”
