Hitachi Energy Plans London, Ontario, Canada, Manufacturing Operations

10/21/2026
Energy technology company Hitachi Energy plans to establish operations in London, Ontario, Canada. The more than $330 million project is expected to create more than 100 jobs.

The investment will include the construction of a new 226,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at Huron Street and Veterans Memorial Parkway that will produce pressboard and laminates used in power transformer manufacturing. Production is scheduled to begin in 2028.

"Canada's National Electricity Strategy sets an ambition to double the capacity of the country's electricity grid by 2050, and delivering that growth will require a stronger domestic supply chain," said Hitachi Energy Canada Managing Country Director Carla Vicente. "This investment supports that ambition by bringing new manufacturing capacity for a critical transformer component to Canada and helping build the infrastructure that will power Canadian communities, industries and economic growth for generations to come."

To support the project, the Government of Canada has announced an investment of approximately $14.2 million through the Strategic Response Fund, while the Government of Ontario has committed up to approximately $14.2 million through the Invest Ontario Fund. Natural Resources Canada has also provided approximately $7.1 million to Hitachi Energy Canada Inc., bringing the total announced government support to approximately $35.5 million.

"In the face of global economic uncertainty, our government continues to foster the competitive conditions needed for global companies to confidently expand their presence in Ontario and invest in long-term projects," noted Ontario Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade Vic Fedeli. "We are proud to stand as a partner to Hitachi Energy's latest investment, which will create new, high-value jobs for local workers and further position Ontario as a central hub for advanced manufacturing projects powering the economy and future."

Hitachi Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd., specializes in power grid technologies and electrical infrastructure equipment. The company manufactures transformers, high-voltage equipment, grid automation systems and related components supporting electric utilities, industrial facilities and renewable energy integration.

"Ontario plays an important role in powering communities and economies across Canada and North America. As demand for electricity continues to grow, so does the need for the infrastructure behind it. By establishing domestic production of a critical transformer component, Hitachi Energy is helping strengthen the supply chains needed to support grid expansion while reinforcing Ontario's position as a hub for advanced manufacturing, energy infrastructure and investment. This project reflects what's possible when innovative companies and strong partners come together to build for the future," added Invest Ontario CEO Khawar Nasim.
