Niowave Expands Lansing, Michigan, Production Operations

Medical radioisotope producer Niowave plans to expand its operations in Lansing, Michigan. The more than $85 million project is expected to create at least 73 jobs.

The investment will include the construction of a new 80,000-square-foot facility that will feature up to six new linear particle accelerators to increase production of Actinium-225 (Ac-225), an isotope used in targeted alpha therapy oncology.

“Niowave was founded in Michigan more than 20 years ago, and mid-Michigan's deep manufacturing roots and highly skilled technical workforce make it the right place for our continued growth,” said Niowave CEO Mike Zamiara. “We are excited to partner with the MEDC as we build our second facility. This expansion will strengthen our ability to provide a reliable, scalable supply of Actinium-225 while creating quality jobs in Lansing and supporting the development of new cancer treatments."

To support the project, Niowave was awarded a $695,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. The company is also utilizing Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) Capital Access programs to support construction of the new facility and the purchase of machinery and equipment.

The Board of Port of Lansing Next Michigan Development Corporation approved a PA 198 tax abatement for the real property component, and the Michigan Department of Transportation approved a $2.1 million Transportation Economic Development Fund Category A grant for road enhancement activities at the project site.

Niowave is a medical technology company that develops and operates superconducting electron linear accelerators and produces medical radioisotopes used in targeted cancer therapies. The company specializes in accelerator design and manufacturing, radiochemistry, and production of medical isotopes including Actinium-225 and Yttrium-90.
