Mtech Plans $3.5 Million Investment To Relocate To Pflugerville Community Development Near Austin, Texas

06/12/2013
Mtech, a commercial heating, ventilation and air conditioning, plumbing and electrical services company and subsidiary of Comfort Systems USA, will construct a $3.5 million, 33,000-square-foot regional headquarters building for its 200 employees at the Pflugerville Community Development, located 16 miles northeast of Austin and just south of Round Rock in the central part of the Lone Star State.

According to the Pflugerville, Mtech will build the new regional corporate office, training and fabrication facility on a 4.5-acre tract of land at 1720 Royston Lane, in an industrial area of the community.

“Securing established, growing primary employers is the pillar of economic development success. With them, we increase our daytime population, which brings additional retailers, which brings additional entertainment, which brings additional revenue for our city to serve our citizens,” PCDC Executive Director Floyd Akers said. “Mtech is exactly the kind of corporation we want to attract to Pflugerville—one that has been around for decades, will be around for decades, and has solid growth plans.”

Comfort Systems USA will use the Mtech Pflugerville facility as the hub for customers from Central Texas through San Antonio and the Rio Grande Valley. The company’s expansion plans include increasing staff by approximately 50 percent, up to 300 employees within the next few years.

Mtech has experienced steady growth during the past several years, and the company needed a build-to-suit facility to accommodate current employees, business plans and room for growth, Mtech President Bob Fabrizio said. The company also needed to be able to move in by the end of the year when their current lease expires.

The Pflugerville City Council approved a $356,000 incentive agreement proposed by the PCDC for Mtech that is based on jobs at a June 11 meeting.

“The short turnaround time for the plan review process in Pflugerville was key to our decision to locate here,” said Mtech President Bob Fabrizio. “The premium of a build-to-suit building was offset by the incentives.”

Mtech said it will make heavy investments in training and apprenticeship programs to mentor new technicians, which are a hot commodity in Central Texas with a large majority of licensed technicians aging out of the workforce.
