General Dynamics Expands Workforce In London and Winchester, Kentucky, Adding 1,300 Employees
07/15/2013
Both new facilities in Kentucky will provide technical assistance for the technical implementation of the federal government’s Health Insurance Marketplace. The London site will be located on Old Whitley Road, and is expected to employ up to 1,000 people. The site in Winchester will be on Bypass Road, and should include approximately 300 employees. The company also has approximately 400 employees at an existing facility in Corbin, Kentucky. General Dynamics will be staffing its new call center with customer service representatives during summer 2013.
General Dynamics Information Technology provides information technology (IT), systems engineering, professional services and simulation and training to customers in the defense, federal civilian government, health, homeland security, intelligence, state and local government and commercial sectors.
“The Commonwealth has scored not one, but two major victories here, with 1,300 new jobs on the way to London and Winchester,” said Gov. Steve Beshear. “General Dynamics is a global company with a tremendous array of products and services, which means a wealth of opportunities for its employees.”
As an incentive to encourage the investment and job creation in London and Winchester, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority preliminarily approved Vangent, which was acquired by General Dynamics in October 2011, for tax incentives up to $11.5 million through the Kentucky Business Investment program. The performance-based incentive allows a company to keep a portion of its investment over the term of the agreement through corporate income tax credits and wage assessments by meeting job and investment targets.
“I am thrilled with General Dynamics’ decision to expand their operations here in Kentucky and Laurel County,” said Laurel County Judge-Executive David Westerfield. This multimillion-dollar investment will definitely stimulate the economic growth and development of our area, by adding these much-needed 1,000 new jobs. The Laurel County Industrial Authority, the Fiscal Court and I are pleased to have been involved in the process of helping General Dynamics locate here, and we are excited at the prospects General Dynamics’ expansion will have on our community.
