American Book Company Shutting Knoxville, Tennessee Warehouse

American Book Company, a bargain book wholesaler, is closing its Knoxville, Tennessee, distribution center, the Knoxville News Sentinel reports. The closure will result in 100 layoffs, but the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development says "the total number of affected workers in 250."

The company will consolidate distribution at its Jefferson City warehouse. American Book attributed the decision "to the expense of operating two facilities."

Laid off workers will receive assistance in finding new jobs and severance packages. Lay offs will begin on October 6 and continue through the end of the year.
